Sam Houston State University was represented recently by (left to right) Mark Taylor, Dr. Billy Harrell, Dr. Joe Muller and Ryan Saucier at the Texas Section-American Society of Agricultural Engineers meeting. Saucier received the 2002 Superior Student Service Award.

Ryan Saucier of Huntsville has been recognized for his outstanding work by the Texas Section of the American Society of Agricultural Engineers.

The 2002 Superior Student Service Award was presented to Saucier at the annual meeting of the group in Lubbock held recently.

The award is given each year to a student in an agricultural systems management or agricultural mechanization program who has demonstrated exemplary community service, aided his or her student chapter in dramatic ways and who has succeeded in the academic arena. The award includes a $500 cash prize.

Saucier was nominated for the award by faculty adviser Joe Muller.

"Ryan has excelled in his academic work and played a major role in having the Annual Conference of the Southern Student Branch of the American Society of Agricultural Engineers brought to Sam Houston state University this year, for the first time ever," said Muller.

Saucier was accompanied to the Lubbock meeting by fellow student Mark Taylor and club advisers Muller and Billy Harrell. While in Lubbock, Saucier and Taylor attended professional meetings, gave a special report about the progress of the SHSU agricultural mechanization program and networked with professionals in the agricultural engineering and mechanization fields. They also attended the 2002 Farmer-Stockman Field Day.

Saucier is currently pursuing his master's degree in agriculture at SHSU with an emphasis in agricultural mechanization. He earned his bachelor of science degree from SHSU in agricultural business in 2001. He also serves in the university's Department of Agricultural Sciences as a graduate teaching assistant.
