Wooten Honored at Retirement Reception

Wooten and proclamation
Dorothy Wooten responds to her many friends who honored her Monday at a retirement reception. At left (and below) is a resolution listing her many personal qualities and the contributions she has made to the university in the past 31 years.

Whereas, Dorothy Hall Wooten joined the staff in the Office of the President at Sam Houston State University in 1984 as Secretary to the President; and

Whereas, her tenure at Sam Houston State has spanned more than three decades and her distinguished career in the Office of the President of Sam Houston State University has spanned the presidencies of Elliott T. Bowers, Martin J. Anisman, Bobby K. Marks, and James F. Gaertner; and

Whereas, to her colleagues, she is highly respected as a woman of integrity, warmth, and good humor who instills respect, inspiration, and admiration; and

Whereas, to the students and alumni as well as members of the faculty and staff of Sam Houston State University, she is someone who can explain without demeaning, someone who can critique without censure; and

Wooten and Wheelbarrow
Wooten received a wheelbarrow load of gifts, with the wheelbarrow expected to see great use as she pursues her gardening interests during retirement.

Whereas, Dorothy H. Wooten has provided numerous legacies in support of University goals and high standards, and motivated by a sense of responsibility and commitment throughout years of service, has continued the broad array of her meaningful contributions; and

Whereas, the titles have varied-Secretary to the President, Assistant to the President, Assistant to the President for Operations-Dorothy Hall Wooten provided the structure to span the administrations of four presidents while demonstrating excellence to all the various internal and external constituencies; and

Whereas, throughout her years of service with the University, she demonstrated exceptional performance as a mentor, a friend, and a confidant worthy of emulation and a reflection of the special quality of a woman whose dedication to Sam Houston State University is treasured; and

Whereas, Ms. Wooten provided a valuable legacy for our students, our alumni, the faculty and the staff as well; be it therefore

Resolved, that all elements of Sam Houston State University enthusiastically extend heartfelt appreciation to Dorothy Hall Wooten for her dedication and the furtherance of Sam Houston State University upon the occasion of her retirement on August 31, 2002.
