|
Last year's participants in the "Teaching Environmental Science" course
visited a number of environmental and power industries in the area
such as Entergy Texas Inc.
|
"Teaching Environmental Science," an environmental education
graduate course for K-12 teachers, will be offered at Sam
Houston State University July 8-23.
The application deadline is May 23, and priority will be given
to early respondents.
The program is sponsored by the Texas Commission on Environmental
Quality and the Environmental Protection Agency. This
is the second year the course has been taught at Sam Houston
State.
The course is designed to help teachers deepen their understanding
of environmental science concepts in a community and industry
context so that they can apply their new learning to create
Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills-based learning experiences
for their students.
In addition to the classroom experience, participants will
visit and have direct experiences with environmental and power
industries in the area.
Teachers will earn three hours of graduate credit with tuition
paid and 45 hours of continuing professional education credit
from the Texas State Board for Educator Certification.
