A Sam Houston graduate
student will have the opportunity to study criminology in
Switzerland.

The College of Criminal Justice and the University
of Lausanne in Switzerland have an agreement that will allow a student from
Sam Houston State University to study one semester at the University of Lausanne
tuition free.
The program is for a graduate student working toward a MA, MS or Ph.D. degree
in criminal justice, and is for study during the spring 2004 semester, or possibly
fall 2003 if all paperwork and documentation are completed in time.
Initially, only one student will be selected to participate in the program. However,
according to Jurg Gerber, director of Sam Houston State University International
Programs, the opportunity may be extended to include more than one student in
the future.
The Sam Houston student will study criminology in Lausanne and possibly earn
up to nine credits toward the degree at SHSU.
Although tuition is free, the student will be responsible for the cost of the
plane ticket and room and board in Switzerland. The University of Lausanne
will assist the student in finding housing.
"It is possible that the student who is selected might qualify for the $650 International
Education Fee Scholarship from SHSU, which is awarded by the International Programs
and Activities Committee for study abroad," said Gerber.
Knowledge of French would be helpful, but is not required because several professors
at the University of Lausanne have spent extended periods of time in the United
States, England and Australia, said Gerber.
For additional information, contact Gerber by phone at 936.294.4611 or e-mail.
