SHSU Picked for China Partnership Program

Another indication of Sam Houston State University's growing educational connection to China was announced recently by the American Association of State Colleges and Universities (AASCU).

The association, in partnership with the Chinese Education Association for International Exchange (CEAIE), has initiated a second phase of a successful pilot program by expanding a leadership training exchange to include 26 new higher education institutions from China and the United States.

Sam Houston and Stephen F. Austin State Universities were the only Texas higher education institutions named.

The first six Chinese university administrators who are participants in the second phase of the joint training project will begin their orientation to higher education in the United States April 19-21 in Washington, D.C. Each participant will then travel to an AASCU host campus for a two-week intensive program of study and training.

The project links Chinese and American universities by providing opportunities for programmatic development and expanding relationships for faculty/student exchanges. The American participants will travel to China in October for an orientation in Beijing and training at the exchange partner campuses.

Other U. S. schools involved in the second phase are: Cleveland State University (Ohio), Emporia State University (Kans.) Longwood University (Va.), Middle Tennessee State University, Northeastern Illinois University, Ramapo College of New Jersey, University of Alaska - Anchorage, University of North Alabama, University of Southern Colorado, University of West Florida, and Washburn University of Topeka (Kans.)

The American Association of State Colleges and Universities is a higher education association whose membership is comprised of more than 425 colleges, universities and systems of public higher education throughout the United States and its territories.
