held this week (April 19-23).
On Monday, Elizabeth Birch will speak on gay and lesbian rights
and how to further promote diversity in the community at 7:30

Birch served as the executive director of the Human Rights
Campaign, the nation's largest lesbian, gay, bisexual, and

Under her leadership, the institution more than quadrupled
its membership to 500,000 and became known nation-wide for
its professionalism and cutting-edge advocacy techniques.
In addition, she built the organization from grassroots into
the modern corporate model with a senior management team and
100-person staff.
Also throughout the week, the AIDS Memorial Quilt will be

said Laura Springel, student coordinator for Student Activities.
“More than 42,000 individual panels, each one commemorating
the life of someone who has died of complications related
to AIDS, have been sewn together by friends, lovers, and family
members.”
The quilt includes contributions from all over the world,
containing panels from Argentina, Aruba, Australia, Belgium,
Romania, Uganda, South Africa and many other countries.
“This is a tremendous opportunity to remember and reflect
