Going beyond the classroom as a traditional teaching venue, he gave numerous presentations relating to the issues of death and dying to a vast array of audiences, including those of health care professionals; and

Doing more than speaking of leadership, Cording stepped forward in 1979 to become Acting Dean and in 1981 Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences. He saw his position as Dean as a place from which to lead and to innovate. Further evidence of his devoted leadership can be seen in his formation of the Texas Association of Deans of Liberal Arts and Sciences, an organization over which he presided as President in its first two years and which continues to influence educational policy to the present day; and

Whereas, while serving as Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences, Dr. Cording was actively involved in the planning and addition of three new facilities housing eleven of the college’s programs; and

Whereas, among the broad array of his accomplishments are numerous legacies of the meaningful contributions demonstrated through significant service to the University as a faculty member while serving on major university, as well as community, committees and organizations; and
