SHSU Intern Makes Supervisor Proud

Many Sam Houston State University students are doing internships this summer. The supervisor of Courtney Johnson, a health major from Kilgore, was especially pleased at the work she did for the Montgomery County United Way.

“For one of her first assignments as an intern for Montgomery County United Way, Courtney Johnson agreed to look for a wheelchair for a gentleman in The Woodlands who could not afford to replace his chair from the 1960s,” said Betty Campbell, information and referral specialist and “Day of Caring” coordinator.

“In previous attempts, I had acquired one from a local agency that was too small and another that was too large for his doorways, but Courtney learned from my mistakes.”

After phoning the client for measurements, she called medical supply companies until she found one who was willing to donate a new chair.

“I feel her commitment and follow through on this project deserve recognition,” Campbell said. “She has improved the life of a very deserving and thankful individual.”
