Flores, Garcia Discuss Diversity

Lionel Garcia and Don Flores

Lionel Garcia, an author and poet, (left) and Don Flores, executive vice president and editor of the El Paso Times, discuss their experiences as Mexican-American men at a panel discussion Wednesday (April 7) afternoon in the Lowman Student Center Theatre. Garcia talked about his life as a writer, and Flores, who also serves on the board of regents for the Texas State University system, told about being the first Hispanic ever hired at the Abilene Reporter News in 1973. Both Texas natives stressed the importance of diversity, getting an education and learning a second language.
