Spring Enrollment Sets Another Record
The Sam Houston State University registrar's office has announced
that final enrollment for the 2004 spring semester is 12,762.
This is 426 more students, or 3.5 percent more than in 2003,
and a new spring semester record.
The previous spring semester record was set last year, when
12,336 students enrolled.
Numbers were up in almost all categories of students--freshman,
sophomore, junior, senior, post baccalaureate and doctoral--and
down only slightly (25 students out of almost 1,500) in the
graduate classification.
The number of students pursuing doctorates was up almost 30
percent, to a total of 175.
Enrollment at the University Center in The Woodlands was up
by more than 12 percent, from 527 students last spring to
591 this year.
The University Center is a consortium of six universities--Sam
Houston State, Texas A&M, University of Houston, University
of Houston-Downtown, Texas Southern and Prairie View A&M.
Sam Houston State offers several degrees that can be completed
solely at the University Center. SHSU also accounts for more
than 70 percent of the classes taught there, more than any
of the other participating institutions by a wide margin.
Total SHSU enrollment for the 2003 fall semester was 13,460.
