Dr. Hill Welcomed to University Health
Center
The doctor is in. Dr. Tom Hill is nearing
the end of his first semester as the newest physician at
Sam Houston State University’s Health Center.
Though not an alum of SHSU (he attended medical school at
UTHSC in Houston), Hill is no stranger to Huntsville. He
has maintained a private practice in Huntsville
for over 12 years as well as working as a surgeon and participating on three
committees at Huntsville Memorial Hospital.
Hill was informed of the opening by an acquaintance, Carol Reyes, and looked
into it, needing a position that would help to better suit his family’s
needs.
“I was familiar with Carol and she said they wanted to have a doctor here,
and it was very much helpful for our family,” Hill said. “So really
it came out of a product of having known Carol and needing to help out my family.”
Hill stated that his experience at the university so far has been quite enjoyable,
largely due to the warm reception he has received by the Health Center’s
exceptional staff.
“This has been an extremely friendly group of people,” he said. “Students
are really fortunate to have the benevolent group of people working over there.
I have been most impressed by how genuine the staff’s attitude is.” Hill
added that it is “wonderful to work with them, but I’m sure its even
better to be a recipient of that.”
Members of the Health Center staff have also expressed their appreciation and
approval of Hill.
“Dr. Hill possesses positive attributes that will benefit the entire university
community,” said Keith Lott, director of the Health Center. “We already
have one excellent health care provider in Crystal Birdsong, our Nurse Practitioner.
The acquisition of Dr. Hill’s services will allow the students access to
a duo of competent and compassionate medical practicioners.”
Likewise, Dr. Thelma Douglass, vice president for Student Services, showed her
approval for Hill.
“Dr. Tom Hill is a welcome addition to the Health Center,” she said. “He
has a caring, health-professional approach to students’ health needs. His
kind demeanor, positive attitude, and knowledge of health care are qualities
that students will surely appreciate.”
Hill also explained his philosophy when it comes to treating students.
“Really I just try and treat patients in the same way that I would want
to be treated,” he said.
