The only athlete in SHSU’s history to make the first team all-America teams
for four consecutive years in any sport, Joseph L. “Bud” Haney
is a 1963 graduate with a Bachelor of Business Administration degree in accounting.
The founder, president and chief financial officer of Profiles International,
a Waco-based occupational assessment company, which now contributes upwards
of $15 to $20 million to the local economy, Haney is also the co-author of “40
Strategies for Winning in Business.”
“I am keenly aware of his background as an extraordinary athlete as a College
All American for four years while attending Sam Houston,” one nomination
letter said. “This accomplishment was not only a personal achievement;
it also clearly reflects the nurturing that he received at Sam Houston that
inspired him to greater heights of achievement.
“
His unfortunate injury while playing professional major league baseball was clearly
baseball’s loss, but conversely, it was a huge gain for our country’s
private sector enterprises.”
He and his wife, Joan, have three sons. They live in Waco.
William Dan Womack
William Dan Womack is a 1960 graduate with a Bachelor of
Science degree who spent the majority of his career working
with the National Aeronautics and
Space Administration.
A recipient of the NASA Exceptional Achievement Medal, Womack “took a degree
in physics from SHSU to new heights,” a nomination letter said.
“
He was associated with NASA for 37 years and had scientific experiments on
four Gemini missions and on lunar surface projects,” the letter continued.
"He managed the Spacelab mission successfully flown in June '91. The last seven
years with NASA, he was the Directorate representative for the Space Shuttle
and other orbiter projects."
At the time of his retirement in 1998, Womack was the assistant to the director
of space and life sciences for the Space Shuttle Program.
He and his wife, Jean, have four children and four grandchildren. They live
