Criminal Justice Offers Online Master's Program
The College of Criminal Justice at Sam Houston State University
in Huntsville is offering an online Master of Science in Criminal
Justice Leadership program beginning in the fall of 2005.
Many of the students enrolled in criminal justice programs
at Sam Houston State are working professionals, and the college
is expanding its outreach by providing students with the flexibility
and convenience of learning anywhere an Internet connection
is available.
"Today, the demand for education is increasing,"
said Steven Cuvelier, director of the Texas Institute for
Digital Education at Sam Houston State.
"As more students request part-time educational programs,
the need to provide convenient access has increased,"
he said. "Distance learning is becoming a practical alternative
for many non-traditional students.
"With a little self motivation, a computer, and a fast
internet connection, students can earn their degree from a
highly respected program, while balancing their personal and
professional responsibilities with their classes," he
said.
The distance courses offered by the College of Criminal Justice
are based on a collaborative learning model, which focuses
on shared responsibility and active participation.
"Students will have the opportunity to become familiar
with each other as well as their professor through interactive
and collaborative learning experiences," said Cuvelier.
"This connected-but-distant format encourages the development
of a learning community that will extend across the entire
program and enrich the educational experience," he said.
