No More Waiting for 'Waiting for Godot'
Sam Houston State University's theatre and dance department
presents Samuel Beckett's "Waiting for Godot" Thursday
and Friday in the University Theatre Center Showcase Theatre.
Show times are 8 p.m. both nights.
James Arrington, senior theatre major who directs the production,
said that "Waiting for Godot" is from the Theatre
of the Absurd, an irrational form of theatre that throws out
all things familiar and ushers in a circus of absurdities.
"'Waiting for Godot' focuses on Vladimir and Estragon,
two old friends, waiting for something or someone to alleviate
their boredom," said Arrington. "That someone is
Godot, who is a representation of all things in life that
people wait for."
While waiting, a man named Posso and his servant Lucky stumble
upon the two clowns and chaos ensues...which passes the time.
Each character is a physical representation of one of the
four elements of attraction: intellectualism, emotional control,
physicality and spirituality.
The cast includes graduating senior musical theatre major
Matt Tompkins as Vladimir, senior musical theatre major Claire
Menger as Estragon, senior theatre major Sue Ann Cameron as
Posso, senior theatre Jen Lucy as Lucky, and senior dance
major Stephanie Beall as Boy.
The stage manager is incoming freshman theatre major Amanda
Spindola, and lighting designer is sophomore theatre major
Mike Sims.
Tickets are $5 general admission. No children under the age
of three will be admitted. For more information call the University
Theatre Center at 936.294.1329 or 936.294.1339.
