The winner of next fall’s Homecoming Theme Contest
is “Viva Huntsvegas… Bearkat Style!”
Assistant Director for Development Cindy Truax said, “It
ended up that there were five entries that contained
the word ‘Huntsvegas,’ so we took the five entries
that contained the word and conducted a drawing to
determine the winner.”
The winning entry received about half of the 712 votes, a
landslide win over the four other entries.
Bob Barragan, chairman of the Homecoming Steering Committee,
said “It’s an extremely exciting theme, and the
reason is because it was picked by the students. It's going
to be a theme that provides a lot of
opportunities to celebrate.”
“We’ve decided that every year we’re going
to go to the student body and faculty for Homecoming ideas,”
said Barragan.
“The Homecoming Committee met last week and everyone’s
real excited about that theme. Of course we can play on the
casino theme that week, and Student Activities will be putting
together some activities that week. We’ll possibly have
Sammy Bearkat dress up in an Elvis outfit… It lends
itself to lots of different
decorations for the Homecoming parade,” said Truax.
Barragan added that the next homecoming celebration will be
even bigger, with added pre-game activities
and an extended parade route.
Terry Embry, a political science sophomore, won the $200 prize.
