Three Honored For 'Distinguished' Accomplishments
Three Sam Houston State University alumni who have “distinguished” themselves
professionally and personally have been bestowed the highest
honor given by alumni association and the university.
Glenda Dawson, Joseph L. “Bud” Haney and William
Dan Womack will be honored for their lifetimes of service
and accomplishment as recipients of the 2005 Distinguished
Alumni Awards at a gala during homecoming weekend, on Oct.
7, 2005.
A former teacher on both the public school and collegiate
levels, Dawson is currently serving her first term in the
Texas House of Representatives for District 29. She is a
1963 graduate with Bachelor of Business Administration degree.
She currently lives in Pearland.
Haney, a 1963 graduate who was also the only athlete in SHSU’s
history to make the First Team All American for four consecutive
years in any sport, is the founder, president and Chief Financial
Officer of Profiles International, a Waco-based occupational
assessment company.
He and his wife, Joan, live in Waco.
Womack is a 1960 graduate who spent the majority of his career
working with the National Aeronautics and Space Administration,
spending 37 years there. At the time of his retirement in
1998, he was the assistant to the director of space and life
sciences for the Space Shuttle Program.
He and his wife, Jean, currently reside in Guntersville,
Ala.
