Halloween Performance Slated For 'Dracula'
The department of theatre and dance will give audiences
a hauntingly good time with Steven Dietz's adaptation of Bram
Stoker's "Dracula" Wednesday through Halloween (Oct.
26-31).
Show times are 8 p.m. daily with a 2 p.m. Saturday matinee
and a midnight performance on Halloween. All performances
will take place on the University Theatre Center's Mainstage
Theatre.
Dietz's adaptation looks at the time-tested story with fresh
eyes, using humor and horror to tell the tale of the infamous
Count Dracula and his scheme to use London's metropolis for
his own personal feeding grounds.
As the Count's plan materializes, London residents begin to
piece together the odd occurrences and realize that something
must be done to stop him.
Dietz's "Dracula" is about much more than vampires
and creatures of the night; it's a story about true love and
the ability of evil to overtake an entire society with relative
ease.
The cast includes theatre and musical theatre majors Joshua
Amyx (as Dracula), Aaron Thacker, Jared Pike, James Arrington,
Rick Olvera, Mike Sims, Kesha Williams, Veronica Polo, Amy
Burn and Julie Hill.
Directed by SHSU theatre faculty member Ron Destro, the stage
manager is Kyle Schreck, and faculty designers include Gregg
Buck, set; Don Childs, light; and Kristina Hanssen, costumes.
Staff member Larry Routh is the technical director.
Tickets are $10 for general admission and $8 for senior citizens
and SHSU students with a valid ID. Group rates are also available.
The play contains adult content, and no children under the
age of three will be admitted.
