Auditions To Be Held For Young Actors
Area youth will have the opportunity
to show off their acting abilities this summer with the Children’s
Theatre Festival production of “The Odyssey.”
The Sam Houston State University department of theatre and
dance and the Huntsville Arts Commission will audition those
ages 6-18 for roles in the play on Monday and Tuesday (May
23-24), from 7-10 p.m. both days, in the University Theatre
Center.
Actors, singers, dancers and musicians are encouraged to
audition, according to theatre manager Chrissy Price. Those
cast will be required to pay $15 for books and supplies.
“
The Odyssey” traces Odysseus’ attempt to return
home with his men after his victory over Troy in the Trojan
War. Through a series of flashbacks, narrated in part by
a mystifying old man that has arrived at the home of Odysseus’ wife
Penelope, the plot is filled with adventure.
This play, adapted from Homer’s epic poem by Gregory
A. Falls and Kurt Beattie, is full of high spirits and courage
as Odysseus and his men battle the Cyclops and struggle against
the Sirens of the Sea, Price said.
Performances will be held June 22-24 at 7 p.m.
