Luncheon Shows Appreciation For Rita Volunteers

student volunteers

The President's Office thanked all those who volunteered their time to help the Hurricane Rita evacuees Wednesday morning with an appreciation luncheon. Along with an Italian lunch, students, administrators, faculty and staff watched a video and photo montage of the four days the evacuees were on campus, and several speakers, including Keith Jenkins, Frank Parker, John Yarabeck, Rosanne Keathley and State Rep. Lois Kolkhorst shared personal memories of the experience, as well as thanked all those who participated. "I thought I knew you. I love Huntsville; I love Sam Houston," Kolkhorst said, adding that she wears orange as proudly as she would if she had actually attended SHSU. "I knew you were good. I just didn't know you were this good."

(right) Keathley, assistant professor of health education, holds up one of the blue tickets evacuees needed in order to stay at SHSU as part of her "Remembrances of Rita" speech at the luncheon.
