Who's Who Students Honored
Sam Houston State University has recognized 136 students for
their outstanding merit and accomplishments.
The students will
be listed in the 2005 edition of Who's Who Among Students
in American Universities and Colleges. Their selection was based
on nominations by administrators, faculty, and student organizations.
"Students were selected based
on their campus involvement and academic excellence," said
Romeal Johnson, student on the Who's Who Selection Committee. "We
received so many nominations of so many deserving students; it
was a really hard selection process."
The Who's Who Selection
Committee consisted of eight members, including administrators,
faculty, and students.
Selected students were honored
recently at a luncheon in the Lowman Student Center.
Interim
Dean of Students John Yarabeck welcomed students and congratulated
them for their accomplishments.
"You students exemplify the characteristics
that are best in the students that attend Sam Houston State University," said
Yarabeck.
University President James F. Gaertner
addressed students and told a motivational anecdote. "Your
adversaries introduce you to yourself," he said, encouraging
students to not give up in the face of adversity.
Students received
a Who's Who certificate and a university gift presented by President
Gaertner, Dean Yarabeck, and Mary Ellen Sims, assistant dean
of students.
