Theatre To Present Shakespeare’s ‘Twelfth Night’
The SHSU department of theatre and dance will recount William
Shakespeare’s comical tale of mistaken identity in its
presentation of “Twelfth Night” Nov. 1-4 and Nov.
8-11.
Show times are 8 p.m. each day, with a 2 p.m. Saturday matinee
in the University Theatre Center’s Showcase Theatre.
Viola (Ashtyn Sonner) and Sebastian (Scott McCarrey) are twins
who believe the other is dead after they are shipwrecked.
Upon arriving in the foreign land of Illyria, Viola disguises
herself as a man. She is employed by Duke Orsino (Mike Sims)
and falls in love with him.
Orsino, however, is in love with Lady Olivia (Colette Currie),
who is grieving the death of her brother and is not interested
in falling in love.
Olivia’s passions are aroused, however, when Viola,
disguised as a man, arrives with a message from Orsino. She
believes Viola to be a man and falls in love with her.
Matters are complicated further when Sebastian arrives in
Illyria and is mistaken for the man his sister Viola is impersonating.
