Sixty-two Sam Houston State University students who have
demonstrated academic excellence within the College of Business
Administration were recently inducted into the university’s
James E. Gilmore Chapter of Beta Gamma Sigma.
R. Dean Lewis, COBA dean, and the chapter’s president
addressed those “tapped” for induction eligibility
into the international honor society at the annual banquet
and ceremony on April 10 at the Elkins Lake Country Club.
"Less than 1 percent of students who earn bachelor’s
or master's degrees in business each year are inducted into
membership in Beta Gamma Sigma,” said Elsie Ameen. associate
professor of accounting and Beta Gamma Sigma faculty adviser.
“This is the highest academic honor that the College
of Business can bestow on a student."
Also at the ceremony, senior accounting major and Beta Gamma
Sigma member Chelsea Benich was awarded a $1,000 scholarship
for the 2006-2007 academic year. Benich has maintained a 4.0
grade point average.
Spring 2006 inductees include graduate students Celine Francoise
Barcak, Claudine Coren Burke, Jennifer Lucille Bockhorn and
Hans Gartner.
Seniors tapped for membership include James David Alban, Stephen
T. Alexander, Elizabeth Amaya, Lata Murli Assudani, Taylor
Diane Baird, James Caleb Bales, Kelly Jenkins Bentsen, Cristina
Burt, James William Cain III, Jorge Calderon Garcia, Desiree
Casares, Amanda Michelle Cox, Anetta Dudek-Rayburn, Damien
Dean DuFour and Eduardo Ignacio Emmerich.
In addition, Kristi D'Lynn Gibson, Brandy Lynn Gilland, Ryan
Randall Griffin, Rachel Ann Habegger, Marianne Dinae Henry,
Christopher Peter Hunt, Edward Johns III, Jaycie Marie Johnson,
Laurie Helmke Jordan, Linda Cooper Kelley, Natalia S. Lobanova
and Gordon Edward Mizrany.
Also, Oghogho Roy Mukoro, Serena Gail Ontiveros, Crystal Marie
Rozenman, Casey Lynn Schroeder, Mark Lansing Schuck, David
Silos, Benjamin A. Smith, David Lormor Smith, Jacob Sralla,
Edward Tadlock, Heather Jeanette Terrell, Rachel Leigh Thompkins,
Brandon Edwin Waller and Karen L. Wortz.
Recently-inducted junior members include Jennie Bradshaw Alvis,
Anita Jo Barrett, Kelli Kathleen Daniel, Constance Danielle
Darby, Elise Navarro Diaz, Luke Taylor Dildy, Robert W. Dornbos,
Wendi Clemans George and Justino Marcos Ibanez.
Also, Bonnie Rebecca Isbell, Krystal Danielle Kuykendall,
Umera Mahmood, Gregory Lawrence Marchese, Margaret Miller,
Galynn J. Murray, Ryan Wade Pate, and Bethany Rebecca Yurkiw.
The SHSU chapter of Beta Gamma Sigma, the international honor
society for students enrolled in collegiate business programs
at AACSB International accredited institutions, was named
a Premier Chapter for 2005.
To be eligible for membership, juniors must be in the top
7 percent of their class based on overall GPA; seniors must
be in the top 10 percent; and graduating master’s students
must be in the top 20 percent. Students must also meet national
and local criteria to be tapped for lifetime membership.
Faculty members who were not Beta Gamma Sigma members were
also invited to join this spring upon being awarded tenure,
including Taylor Klett, associate professor in the department
of accounting; Geraldine Hynes, associate professor in the
department of general business and finance; and Doug Berg,
associate professor in the department of economics and international
business.
