Students Get Last Shot For Influenza
Vaccine
It is not too late to receive a free flu vaccine. The Student
Health Center still has over 200 vaccines available while
supplies last.
The American College Health Association recommends annual
vaccinations for “college students at risk of complications
from the flu such as diabetics, asthmatics or patients under
certain immunodeficiencies, and any student who wants to minimize
disruption of routine activities during epidemics.”
“A vaccination received in January will reduce the risk
of developing influenza throughout the remainder of the flu
season, which typically continues through March,” said
SHC physician Dr. Tom Hill.
Students can receive the vaccine at the SHC between 9 a.m.
and 4 p.m. Calling ahead to check for availability is recommended.
Students must read and complete the flu vaccine consent
form prior to receiving the injection.
“Getting the flu at the beginning of a semester could
take a toll on your courses,” said Michelle Lovering,
health programming coordinator. “I encourage students
to come in and get a free vaccine so that their semester can
begin with a healthy start.”

18).
International students, office volunteers and anyone who would

at the event, which will be held from 4-5 p.m. in the Kat
Klub.
“It is an opportunity for relaxation and refreshments
and meeting new friends,” said Donna Rogers, OIP coordinator
of operations.
International Coffee Hour is held several times each semester,
and the turn-out is generally “great,” with approximately
40 people attending each event last semester, Rogers said.

Library To Give Profs Lesson
On Plagiarism Tool
The Newton Gresham Library will teach professors the basics
of Turnitin, a major plagiarism deterrent system, with two
workshops in January.
“Turnitin.com is a database which compares submitted
papers to millions of pages of Internet content and tens of
thousands of previously submitted papers and materials on
proprietary databases and reveals improperly duplicated material,”
said Ann Holder, NGL director of library services. “Turnitin.com
is the foremost anti-plagiarism tool available to educators."
The session will be held on Wednesday (Jan. 18) at 2 p.m.
and again on Jan. 26 at 2 p.m.
Both workshops will be held in NGL Room 157.
For more information contact Jess Nevins at 936.294.3587,
