Ellisor Named to Development Position

Rhonda Ellisor
Rhonda Ellisor
Rhonda Ellisor, executive vice president of the Huntsville-Walker County Chamber of Commerce and director of the Huntsville Convention & Visitors Bureau, is moving across town to her alma mater.

Ellisor will begin new duties as associate director of development at Sam Houston State University Oct. 1.

"I am very excited to have Rhonda Ellisor join our development staff, " said Thelma Mooney, director of development in the Office of University Advancement at SHSU.

"She brings a wealth of experience in marketing, cultivating relationships, and working with volunteers," said Mooney. "Her experience, along with her energetic personality, makes her a great addition to our fund raising team as we proceed with our capital campaign."

Ellisor began her chamber work as manager of the Sam Houston Statue Visitor Center complex in October 1994. Her duties now include administration, marketing and operation of the visitor center and the Convention and Visitors Bureau of the Chamber for the purpose of economic development through tourism.

She is a business graduate of Sam Houston State and has completed extensive training in marketing, management and real estate including obtaining her brokers license. She is also designated as a certified tourism professional through the Texas Association of Convention and Visitor Bureaus and currently serves on the executive board of this association.

In addition, she serves as vice president of the Huntsville Rotary club and attends University Heights Baptist Church, where she and her husband, Billy Sherman, teach first grade. They have a son, Bradley Sherman.

"While I may be leaving my job at the chamber, I will always be thankful for the relationships I have developed there," Ellisor said. "My new work will also relate to the chamber mission, because when Sam Houston State University prospers so does our entire community."
