Four Named to Athletic Hall of Honor
Four former Sam Houston State University athletic standouts,
two each in football and baseball, have been named to the Bearkat
Hall of Honor. Inductees include Matt Dominguez, Kelly Eddlemon,
Kevin Pesak and Stephen Prihoda.
They will be honored at an 11:30 a.m. luncheon Oct. 14 in the
Lowman Student Center Ballroom and introduced during halftime
of the football game.

Matt Dominguez |
Matt Dominguez was a four-year football letterman
(1997-2000), was All-Southland Conference four years, and was
a NCAA Division 1-AA All-America selection in 1999.
He is the only Southland Conference player to lead the league
in pass receiving three years in a row, and is the Bearkat career
leader in career catches (211), touchdown catches (27), and yards
receiving (3,273).
He also ranks first in touchdown catches in a game with four.
After brief NFL stints with Denver and New York (Jets), he
signed with the Saskatchewan Roughriders of the Canadian Football
League and has been a starter since 2003.

Kelly Eddlemon |
Kelly Eddlemon was a four-year baseball letterman (1997-2000),
was named All-Southland Conference in 1999 and 2000 and a NCAA
Division I All-America selection in 1999. He holds Bearkat baseball
single season records for batting average (.416), hits (92),
runs batted in (95), doubles (24), and home runs (26).
He also
ranks first in career doubles with 61, and second in career
home runs, doubles, and hits. He was drafted by the Tampa Bay
Devil Rays and played three injury-plagued years before returning
to Houston. He now works for the Energy Alloys international
oil industry service company.

Kevin Pesak |
Kevin Pesak was a four-year football
letterman (1994-1997), was named All-Southland Conference
in 1995, 1996, and 1997, and a NCAA Division 1-AA All-America
selection in 1997. He holds the Bearkat record for
most career receptions by a tight end (147), and is sixth in
all-time pass receiving.
His best games
included nine catches each against Stephen F. Austin in 1995
and University of Houston in 1996 and eight against SFA in
1996. After playing three years for the Washington Redskins,
for the past six years he has worked as sales manager for the
Republic Beverage Company in Dallas/Fort Worth.

Stephen Prihoda |
Stephen Prihoda was a four-year baseball letterman (1992-1995),
was named All-Southland Conference in 1993, 1994, and 1995, and
was the Southland Conference Pitcher of the Year in 1994. He
is the Bearkat career leader in strikeouts (285) and most innings
pitched (349), and is also second in NCAA season earned run average
(2.15) and most innings pitched in an NCAA game (10).
He is one
of three SHSU pitchers who has thrown a no-hitter in an NCAA
game. He was drafted by the Kansas City Royals and played six
seasons in the minor leagues. He now lives in Houston and works
as a tax accountant.
