|
The 2006 homecoming parade will line
up and begin on 19th street, turn left on Sam Houston
Avenue, right on 12th Street and then right on University
Avenue. It will disburse at Midway Plaza. |
Kat Scratch Fever will spread down Sam Houston Avenue, across
12th and back up University Avenue during the Sam Houston
State University homecoming parade on Thursday (Oct. 12).
Lineup for floats and other parade participants will begin
at 5:30 p.m. on 19th Street, with the parade scheduled to
begin at 6:30 p.m.
Parade participants will include university President James
F. Gaertner, the Bearkat Marching Band, the Harley Davidson
motorcycle group, the rodeo team and their horses, State Rep.
Lois Kolkhorst and Congressman Kevin Brady, SHSU’s 2006
distinguished alumni, the university homecoming court, the
Mance Park Middle School dance team, the WNBA Chicago Sky
Guy mascot, and numerous student and community organizations.
The parade will disburse at Midway Plaza on University Avenue,
which is the strip mall behind Bank of America.
In addition, students on a meal plan will be able to eat outdoors,
as ARAMARK will cook out on the grill by the Kampus Korner
Bookstore.
Student and community organizations that want to participate
in the parade by creating a float may sign up until Tuesday
(Oct. 10) in the Student Activities Office, located in Lowman
Student Center Suite 328, or can fax the registration form
to 936.294.3652.
Floats should follow this year’s theme, “Kat Scratch
Fever,” and be “spirited and fun,” according
to Student Activities program coordinator Brandon Cooper.
Prizes will be given to the top three floats, which will include
$1000 for first place, $500 for second place and $250 for
third.
Parade registration forms and a list of specifications for
floats are available online.
