Homecoming Steering Committee Chair Bob Barragan presents a $200 check to junior English major Weston Rose for proposing the winning 2006 homecoming theme "Kat Scratch Fever." The theme was selected by student voters during last month's SGA/Homecoming Theme elections.

Forget the dreaded bird flu. The 2006 Homecoming Steering Committee is hoping that Bearkat fans will catch "Kat Scratch Fever" during the week of Oct. 9-14.
Voters in the April SGA/Homecoming Theme election selected the theme, proposed by junior English major Weston Rose of Gause. This is the second year that students have voted on theme nominations, which were submitted by SHSU students, faculty and staff.
Activities for the annual event are already in the planning stages and the Steering Committee is hoping to get the Huntsville community involved in the week-long celebration this year, as well as students, faculty, staff and alumni.
Huntsville organizations are encouraged to participate in the Homecoming parade, and planners will be contacting area groups in the coming months with information on submitting parade entries. Traditional activities such as the Pre-game Reception with the President and the Lettermen Association Hall of Honor Luncheon will take place on Homecoming Day. Alumni and student organizations will have booths in Bearkat Alley, the site of the pre-game tailgate party, just before the beginning of the football game between Sam Houston State University and Nicholls State University at 2 p.m.
More information about activities during the week-long event will be announced as Homecoming 2006 draws closer.
