Basketball Teams To Create 'Mayhem'

It will be “mayhem” in the Bernard G. Johnson Coliseum at 10 p.m. on Friday (Oct. 13), as the men’s and women’s basketball teams prepare to take the court for their first official practice of the season.

Both teams will be introduced, as well as the LadyKat’s new head coach Brenda Welch-Nichols.

Midnight Mayhem will also include a performance by the Orange Pride Dance Team, the band and the cheerleaders, a 10-minute scrimmage and slam-dunk contest by the men’s team, and a skills competition by the women’s team.

"Midnight Mayhem is an event for the fans to be able to catch a glimpse of the 2006-2007 men's and women's basketball teams,” said Bobby Jordan, athletic development coordinator. “This is an opportunity for everyone to come for entertaining basketball as well as different activities designed to entertain the fans."

"It’s a great way for the basketball teams to begin the season, with an event for the fans that showcases both teams for the upcoming year," he said.

Free Papa John’s pizza will be available before the event, when attendees will be able to participate in contests.

Following the event, players from both teams will be available to sign autographs.

The event will be following the volleyball game against Southeastern Louisiana, which will begin at 7 p.m., and is expected to last approximately an hour and a half.

Midnight Mayhem is open to the public and is free for everyone.
