The College of Education awarded three for their ‘outstanding’
work during its annual fall meeting on Friday (Aug. 18).
Frank Hoffmann, Patricia Williams and Daphne Johnson were
selected by their peers as recipients at the third annual
ceremony.
Hoffmann, professor of library science, was awarded for his
“outstanding research.”
“Dr. Frank Hoffmann has published well over 30 books
during his years at SHSU,” chair of the COE outstanding
awards committee Laverne Warner read from a nomination form.
“Many are seminal volumes in the fields of popular culture
and music.
“He is nationally known for his publications—books,
articles and chapters in books—about iibrarianship…and
has increased awareness of our university in many arenas,”
the nominee said.
Williams, professor of curriculum and instruction, was awarded
for her “outstanding service.”
“Dr. Patricia Williams has served and currently serves
on numerous committees, including Faculty Senate,” Warner
read. “She was instrumental in developing the Writing-Across-the-Curriculum
program on our campus, and she is a 20+ year adviser to Alpha
Chi.
Johnson, assistant professor of curriculum and instruction,
was named the recipient of the “Outstanding Teaching
Award.”
“Dr. Johnson’s instructional presentations reflect
a clear focus on what students need to know to become a successful
teacher, and she delivers that focus in ways that engage students
in the learning and creates an overall zeal for teaching as
a career,” Warner read.
