More Than 40 Receive Promotions, Tenure

Twenty-five Sam Houston State University faculty members received promotions and 16 were awarded tenure by the Texas State University System board of regents during their annual meeting, which ended Friday in San Marcos.

Those promoted included Paula W. Adams, to associate professor of language literacy and special populations; Mary A. Bell, to associate professor of library science; Tracy E. Bilsing, to associate professor of English; Mary K. Borcherding, to professor of art; and Robert B. Bruce, to associate professor of history.

Also, Paul W. Child, to professor of English; Peter A. Cooper, to professor of computer science; Caroline C. Crimm, to professor of history; Charlotte M. Drumm, to associate professor of art; and Mark W. Frank, to associate professor of economics.

Also, Donald G. Freeman, to professor of economics; Allen R. Hightower, III, to professor of music; Joseph K. Kavanaugh, to associate professor of management; Alice A. Ketchand, to professor of accounting; and Gerald Kohers, to professor of management information systems.

Also, Sharon A. Lynch, to professor of language literacy and special populations; Balasundram Maniam, to professor of finance; Joyce K. McCauley, to professor of language, literacy and special populations; W. Matthew McInturf, to professor of music; and Philip W. Morris, to associate professor of accounting.

Also, Carroll F. Nardone, to associate professor of English; Nicholas C.J. Pappas, to professor of history; Deborah L. Phelps, to professor of English; Mitchel P. Roth, to professor of criminal justice; and Tamara A. Waggener, to associate professor of political science.

Adams, Bell, Bilsing, Bruce, Drumm, Frank, Hightower, Kavanaugh, Morris, Nardone, and Waggener all received tenure.

Also receiving tenure were Richard S. Bello, associate professor of speech communication; John M. de Castro, dean of the College of Humanities and Social Sciences and professor of psychology; Scott W. Menard, professor of criminal justice; Michael S. Vaughn, professor of criminal justice; and Vincent J. Webb, College of Criminal Justice dean, Criminal Justice Center director and professor of criminal justice.

These new titles take effect in the fall 2006 semester.
