Faculty, Staff Honored For Excellence, Years Of Service

Faculty and staff members were recognized for their years of service and outstanding contributions to Sam Houston State University on Wednesday (Aug. 22) afternoon during the annual Faculty/Staff Convocation in the Crminal Justice Center's Killinger Auditorium.

(Above) SHSU President Jim Gaertner thanks Dr. Mary Lynn DeShazo, professor of chemistry, for her 50 years of service to the university. "The fine contributions you have made to this university during your career are greatly appreciated," he told her.
Forty Year Service Award recipients were Mary Gutermuth, professor of French, and Jack Parker, vice president for finance and operations.
Thirty-five Year Service Award recipients were (left to right) Front Row: Bob Biles, professor of political science; Jerry Dowling, professor of criminal justice; Sally Kundig, economics; and Jim Olson, distinguished professor of history. Texas State University System Chancellor Charles Matthews (left) was on hand to present the TSUS Regents' Professor Award to Dr. Jim Olson, distinguished professor of history. Dr. Rolando del Carmen, distinguished professor of criminal justice, is also a recipient of the award, but was out of the country.
