Petroleum CEO To Serve As COBA Executive-In-Residence
James T. Hackett, chairman, president and chief executive officer of Houston-based Anadarko Petroleum Corporation, will visit the Sam Houston State University College of Business Administration on Tuesday, Oct. 16, as the Fall 2007 Executive-in-Residence.
During his visit, Hackett will address the COBA faculty and
students in Mafrige Auditorium at 9:45 a.m. and answer questions
following his presentation.
"Mr. Hackett has tremendous leadership skills as well as the ability to work amazingly well with people in all positions," said Jim Bexley, chair of the university's Smith-Hutson Endowed Chair of Banking and founder of the Executive-in-Residence program.
"It will be good for our students to be around him and hear what he has to say," Bexley said.
Hackett came to Anadarko, one of the world's largest independent oil and gas exploration and production companies, as president and CEO in December 2003.
Before joining the company, he served as president and chief operating officer of Devon Energy Corporation and chairman, president and CEO of both Ocean Energy and Seagull Energy Corporation. He was president of the Energy Services Division of Duke Energy and executive vice president of Pan Energy. His energy experience includes positions in engineering, finance and marketing with NGC Corp., Burlington Resources and Amoco Oil Company.
Hackett is a current member and a former chairman of the Board of the American Exploration and Production Council, and executive committee and board member of the American Petroleum Institute, and a member of the Society of Petroleum Engineers.
He is a director of Temple-Inland, Inc. and Fluor Corporation and serves as chairman of the board of the Federal Reserve Bank of Dallas.
Hackett is a current member and former chairman of Houston Grand Opera and serves on the board and executive committee of Baylor College of Medicine, and boards of The Business Roundtable and the National Humanities Center.
He holds a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Illinois and a Master of Business Administration degree from Harvard University.
Bexley formed the residence program approximately 10 years ago, with the goal of bringing chief executive officers from major American corporations to Sam Houston State to visit with students.
"We wanted to expose COBA students to leaders in the industry in a large group setting as well as a smaller classroom setting," Bexley said.
"At the same time, we wanted to let the industry leaders know about Sam Houston State University," he added.
Leaders in government, business and banking have served as Executives-in-Residence since the program began on a regular basis.
