Businessman To Share Sweet
Secrets Of Success
Joe Weller, retired chairman and chief executive officer
for Nestle USA, will discuss “10 Key Leadership Qualities”
from his book, “A Blueprint for Success,” on Feb.
8.
The speech, sponsored by the Office of University Advancement,
will be held at 9:30 a.m. in the Smith-Hutson Business Building’s
Ron and Linda Mafrige Auditorium.
Weller received his bachelor’s degree in business administration
from the University of Tennessee in 1968 and began working
with the Carnation Company, acquired by Nestle in 1985.
He quickly rose through the sales ranks and was named president
and chief operating officer in 1992, president and CEO in
1994, and chairman and CEO in 1995.
During Weller’s tenure, which ended last January, Nestle
USA saw nine consecutive years of financial growth and was
named one of “America’s Most Admired Food Companies”
by Fortune magazine for eight consecutive years.
The lecture is free, and seats will be available on a first-come,
first-served basis.

W-2s Available For Pick-Up Through
Jan. 29
The Payroll Office is disbursing the W-2 wage and tax forms
outside of the Cashier’s Office, on the first floor
of the Estill Building, through the end of January.
The forms will be picked up by the Payroll Office after 5
p.m. on Jan. 29 and will be mailed out on Jan. 31.
Student W-2s are also available to be picked up and will be
mailed out to whatever address is on the pay stubs.
In order to pick up your W-2, you must present a photo identification
card.
The Cashier’s Office is open Monday through Friday,
from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Teams Cheer, Dance
To Top 10 At National Competition
The SHSU Co-ed Cheerleading squad and Orange Pride Dance
Team earned third and sixth places, respectively, during the
2007 Universal Cheerleaders and Dancers Collegiate National
Championship, held Jan. 12-15 in Orlando, Fla.
“We’re very proud of the accomplishments of both
of these teams, as they competed against some of the best
teams in the nation,” said spirit programs coordinator
Jared King.
“The cheerleading squad last made the top three in 2000
and have shown steady improvement by finishing ninth in 2005,
sixth in 2006 and third in 2007,” he said. “The
dance team has been a top team over the past 10 years.”
In addition, the cheerleaders’ performance will be broadcast
on ESPN sometime in March.

Non-Traditional Organization
To Meet Jan. 29, 30
The Non-Traditional Student Organization at SHSU will have
its first general assembly meetings of the semester to discuss
the upcoming Spring Fling dance, as well as other events for
the spring, on Jan. 29-30 in Lowman Student Center Room 319.
The Jan. 29 meeting will be held from 6-7:15 p.m., and the
Jan. 30 meeting will be held from 2-3:15 p.m. Both meetings
will cover the same items, and two are being held to accommodate
non-traditional students who are on campus at different times
of the day, according to Andrea L. Woodlief, NTSO business
manager.
"We understand that the non-traditional students have
very busy schedules, and we are even planning on bringing
the organization more online by starting a Blackboard account
for conducting meetings over the Internet," she said.
NTSO was founded in the fall of 2004 and currently has more
than 160 members.
To qualify as a non-traditional student you must be 25 years
or older, returning to school after being away for many years,
returning to school after military service, a mom or a dad,
married, or feel as though “you just feel like you don't
fit in with the rest of the college crowd,” Woodlief
said.
Other activities planned for the spring include a resume-writing
workshop with Career Services on Feb. 27, a time management
seminar with the Student Advising and Mentoring Center on
March 27, and a softball game for the non-traditional students.
“We welcome non-traditional students at SHSU, faculty,
staff, and their families to attend our meetings and events,”
Woodlief said. “Our meetings are filled with fun conversations
and provide an opportunity for building new friendships.”

SAM Center Give Study Skills
Advice
The Student Advising and Mentoring Center will teach students
how to “study smart” with its Study Skills Workshop
series beginning Jan. 29.
The six, one-hour sessions will introduce study skills, as
well as discuss procrastination, time management, reading
textbooks, note and test taking strategies and stress management.
Sessions will also be held at a variety of times to accommodate
student schedules.
A second series will begin on March 19, covering the same
material.
Space is limited, and students must call or stop by the SAM
Center to sign up.

Alpha Chi Welcomes 51 New
Members
Fifty-one students have been inducted into the Texas Omicron
chapter of the Alpha Chi National College Honor Scholarship
Society.
To be eligible for membership, students must have at least
a 3.7 grade point average as a junior or a 3.6 GPA as a senior.
