Theatre To Present ‘Night of the Iguana’
The SHSU department of theatre and dance will tell Tennessee
Williams’ story of a defrocked minister’s adventures
in Mexico with its production of “The Night of the Iguana,”
Wednesday through Saturday (Feb. 14-17).
Show times are 8 p.m. each evening, with a 2 p.m. Saturday
matinee, in the University Theatre Center’s Mainstage
Theatre.
The play follows Rev. T. Lawrence Shannon, a defrocked minister
accused of statutory rape, who leads a tour bus of churchwomen
along the coast of Mexico.
Shannon is to deliver them to a cheap hotel run by an old
friend, but when he arrives, he finds that the old friend
has died, and the hotel is now run by his sex-starved wife,
Maxine.
In the throes of a nervous breakdown, Shannon must deal with
the church group, which despises him, and Maxine’s lustful
advances.
As the show progresses, a spinster, Hannah, and her elderly
poet grandfather arrive at the hotel. Penniless, they offer
their services in return for lodging.
The show stars SHSU theatre majors Addison Roush as Shannon,
Katie Stefaniak as Maxine, Amy Burn as Hannah, James Arrington
as the poet grandfather, Jamy Gillespie as Judith Fellowes,
Nick Lahay as Hank, and Jennifer Grainger as Charlotte Goodall.
Also featured in the play are Robby Bardwell as Jake Latta,
Zachary Lewis as Poncho, Jonathon Casas as Pedro, Dominic
Klovensky as Herr Fahrenkopf, Rosie Angus as Frau Fahrenkopf,
Daniel Nepveux as Wolfgang, Allison Keogh as Hilda, and Megan
Davis, Kara Durrett, Alissa Palmeri, Kelly Pechal, Sara Stark
and Rachael Weiser as the ladies on the tour.
