Raven Nest Increases Rates--"Still An Excellent Value"

Fees for the Raven Nest golf course will increase by $1 per round effective Aug. 1, with an additional $1 increase for cart rentals.

In return, golfers will get a new cart and better maintained course, according to Rich Ballinger, director of the Sam Houston State University PGA/PGM program, which operates the course.

"Last week we had a brand new fleet of 60 EZ-Go golf cars delivered," Ballinger said. "This past year has also seen the university enter into an agreement for all new course maintenance equipment.

"The upgrade of this maintenance equipment allows us to keep Raven Nest in the best possible condition we can. The addition of this maintenance equipment and new fleet of golf cars is the main reason for the rate increase."

The new fee structure will keep Raven Nest within the criteria for the Dallas Morning News "Best Economy Courses," which ranked it 6th in Texas.

"This still keeps Raven Nest's fees very affordable compared to comparable golf courses and with discounts available to various people in the community," said Ballinger. "Raven Nest is still an excellent value."

Reduced fees are offered to SHSU students, SHSU faculty/staff, SHSU alumni members, city/county/TDC employees, junior golfers and seniors.

Ballinger has also announced that five-year Founding Memberships will be available for $5,000 only through Aug. 31. They include unlimited green fees, golf car fees, and range balls for an immediate family. This works out to $83.33 per month. Founding Memberships can also be financed through First National Bank at a cost of $103.79 per month.

One year family memberships are also available for $1,500, which includes green and cart fees, and $1,000 which includes green fees only.
