LSC Featured in Magazine

An article about the SHSU Lowman Student Center is in the January 2003 edition of "The Bulletin," a publication of the Association of College Unions International.

The recently renovated building was one of the structures featured in the journal's "Renovation and Construction Showcase" issue.

With the renovation, building systems and technology were updated, and all meeting facilities now have Internet capabilities.  A spacious ballroom was built with a stage that provides for handicap accessibility and a loading dock.  The game room was expanded and is now wired for the latest in computer virtual reality games and an updated sound system.  Student organization workspace and offices were constructed, and the bookstore and food service operations were expanded and enhanced.

Faculty Art on Display

The 43rd Annual Art Faculty Exhibition is currently on display in the Gaddis Geeslin Gallery.

A reception for the artists will take place from 5 to 7 p.m. on Jan. 30, and the public is invited to attend.

The works of the 13 art faculty who are participating in the show include paintings, sculptures, animation, and ceramics, among other media.

The gallery is open from noon until 5 p.m. Monday through Friday.

Festival to Feature Dancers

Representatives from over 30 college dance programs will be at Sam Houston State University Wednesday through Saturday (Jan. 29-Feb. 1) to participate in the American College Dance Festival Association's South Central Regional Festival.

A "World Dance Concert" will be held on Thursday (Jan. 30) at 7 p.m. in Johnson Coliseum.  The concert is open to the public and admission is free.

The South Central Region is comprised of colleges and universities from Texas, Arkansas, Oklahoma and Louisiana.  However, other dance students and faculty from California, Idaho, Utah, Wisconsin, Illinois and Missouri will also attend the festival.

Hest Returns for Second Appearance

Folk and rock singer Ari Hest will perform at the Lowman Student Center on Friday (Jan. 31) at 7:30 p.m.  Tickets are $2 at the door.

Hest is performing as a part of the Huntsville Concert Series, which is sponsored by the Huntsville Arts Commission and Huntsville's Promise.  His concert was the inaugural performance of the series last September.

Leadership Series Continues
