SHSU Update for Week of May 11
Elections for the first Sam Houston State University Staff Council will take
place May 14-16.
The Staff Council is an advisory board to the president of the university and
will provide a means of bringing staff concerns to the president's
attention.
Every staff person will be able to vote in all Equal Employment Opportunity categories. Voting
will be online and can be accessed from any computer, so those employees who
are out of town will be able to vote.
Anyone who does not have computer access should let the elections committee know
so that person may receive a paper ballot.

For those who enjoy traveling but do not want to undertake the details of planning
a trip, the SHSU Alumni Association and Continuing Education are offering tours
that will provide an opportunity for networking and fun as well as a chance to
earn classroom credit.
The newly established university travel program will coordinate the first trip
Aug. 16-21 to Niagara Falls and Buffalo, NY. The application deadline for
this venture is June 1.
Visitors can enjoy the charm of the Carmel and San Juan Bautista Missions in
the Old Monterey area of California Oct. 7-12. Application deadline for
this trip is July 20.
An international trip to Barcelona, Madrid, Toledo, and the Castilian landscapes
of Spain will be offered Nov. 4-13. Application deadline is Aug. 15.
The final trip of the semester will be back in the United States, with a visit
to Chicago Dec. 4-7. Application deadline is Sept. 15.

Former students who have completed at least 15 hours at Sam Houston State
University are now eligible for an email account through the university's computer
services department.
The email accounts can be accessed at any time and can be forwarded to other
email addresses.
The application form for an SHSU email address is located online.
The computer services department will keep an email account activated if it
is used at least once every six months, and the account owner abides by the
university's computer use agreement policies as outlined on the alumni email
request form.
