Ward Named to Dean's Post
Richard H. Ward, executive director of the University of Illinois at Chicago's Office of International Criminal Justice and an authority on international and domestic terrorism, was named dean of the College of Criminal Justice.
Executive-In-Residence
Charles E. Amato, a 1970 Sam Houston State graduate, returned to speak in a College of Business Administration program which allows students to become familiar with the business world and allows major corporate executives to become familiar with SHSU and its students.Honors Galore

Plishker Named TRIES Director
Gordon A. Plishker, director of the Institute for Innovative Collaborative Programs at SHSU, replaced Michael Warnock as director of the Texas Regional Institute for Environmental Studies.
Payne Named Associate VP
Richard H. Payne, a specialist in political impacts of nature tourism and wildlife viewing, was named associate vice president for research and graduate studies.
Steven Gonzales Homecoming
Sam Houston State University participated in Huntsville's "Welcome Home" for Specialist Steven Gonzales, one of three United States soldiers taken captive and later released by Serbian forces.
Bridges Wins Regional Award
Dixie Bridges, a Registrar's Office assistant, was presented the Southeast Texas Association of Collegiate Registrars and Admissions Offices Staff Excellence Award for1999.

A concert by Clive Swansbourne, who joined the music faculty as coordinator of piano studies, was one of the many fine arts presentations of the College of Arts and Sciences.
Texas Crime Poll
The Texas Crime Poll once again measured the attitudes of Texans toward crime, finding that today's Texans are more punitive but haven't given up on people who commit crimes.
Budapest Conference
